Reading helps the world and people is so many different ways.
First, books usually have morals. In the book “Have You Filled A Bucket Today,” the lesson is that when you’re nice to someone, you fill your bucket and theirs. And when you are mean to someone, you take away from your bucket and theirs. So the book encourages you to be a good person.
Also, when you read, you get other people to read by example. In my family, my mom and dad read a lot and I learn from them. Sometimes, my parents read my books and we talk about it, like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
Reading shows you how other people behave and that can be a good influence on you. For example, in the “Boxcar Children” series, all 4 Alden children, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny, are very polite and volunteer to help people. They also respect their elders. When children read about the Alden children, they want to be just like them.
Books can make you feel better. Funny books can make you laugh and cheer you up when you are feeling sad or upset. When I read “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” I always laugh out loud. Books also teach you about other countries or people. They make you smart. People who read a lot build their vocabulary and can express themselves with a lot of details. Smarter people are good for the world. I learned the word “flabbergasted” in a book and used it when my mom told me something surprising. My mom was impressed!!
Reading helps you understand people who are not like you. Let’s say you are afraid/scared of dwarfs, and then you read a book about them, it can make them seem like real people to you and you understand them better. When you read about anyone who is different from you, you understand them better and people get along better. That makes the world a better place.
I hope I’ve shown you that reading helps the world and people in so many different ways. Besides, it’s so much fun!
